The Van Gogh Museum is the museum with the world's largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh. Nowhere else in the world can you see so many of Van Gogh's paintings in one place. Here, you can follow the development of the artist's work through all its stages and compare it with pictures by other 19th-century painters in the collection. In addition, the museum offers a wide variety of temporary exhibitions on a large number of subjects from the history of 19th-century art.

Our Lord in the Attic is one of theoldest and most remarkable museums in Amsterdam. Behind the characteristic facade of the house by the canal lies a largely original 17th-century home and a complete hidden church. This hidden church 'in the attic' was built during the Reformation, when Catholics were forbidden to hold public services. Today, the church and the house form the backdrop to a succession of striking exhibitions highlighting religion and contemporary art.

One of the oldest botanic gardens in existence with a world-famous collection.. Today, there are more than 6,000 plants (>4,000 species) growing in the garden and greenhouses. The Hortus is located in the Plantage district on the edge of the hectic center of Amsterdam. Behind the 300-year-old gates, however, the bustle of the city seems to disappear.

The Municipal archives are housed in a well-equipped building complex of seven units: one of them, the former town hall of the municipality of Nieuwer-Amstel was built in 1892. This is where the entrance is for the permanent exhibition: Amsteldijk 67. In 2007 the Municipal archives will move to a new large building the Bazel, in the Vijzelstraat. We will close at the Amsteldijk from the 2nd of April 2007. On the 7th of August we will open again in our new building in the Vijzelstraat.

Visit the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her diary during the Second World War. For more than two years, Anne Frank lived secretively with the other people in hiding in the back part of her father's office building at # 263 Prinsengracht. The Secret Annex has been preserved in its authentic state. The front part of the building - the offices where the Helpers worked - has been restored to the style and ambiance of the war years. Quotations from the diary, photographs, films and original objects - belonging to the people in hiding and those who helped them - all serve to illustrate the events that occurred at this location. Anne's orignal diary is on display in the museum along with some of her other notebooks. The museum's interactive 'Free 2choose' exhibition explores the present day boundaries of freedom.

Allard Pierson Museum is the archaeological museum of the University of Amsterdam. The ancient civilisations of ancient Egypt, the Near East, the Greek World, Etruria and the Roman Empire are revived in this museum. Art-objects and utensils, dating from 4000 B.C. till 500 A.D. give a good impression of everyday-life, mythology and religion in Antiquity. There are also several scale models of ancient temples and buildings. In the ancient Egypt department there is a room dedicated to death with mummies, sarcophagi and a film showing the process of mummification. Our so-called plaster-cast-attic, only to be visited with a guided tour, shows copies of world-famous Roman and Greek statues. Every year two or three temporary exhibitions are organised

The Royal Palace of Amsterdam was built in the 17th century as the new city hall. The Palace contains one of the most complete collections of Empire style furniture dating from the Napoleontic era. The splendid paintings by Ferdinand Bol, Jacob Jordaens and Govert Flinck and fine sculpted work by Artus Quellinus refer to the governmental and administrative functions that the building once had.
